About Tony

Tony Weston, BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Tony is a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Senior Accredited Supervisor. He sits in what the counselling profession’s SCoPEd framework calls “Column C” — the tier for advanced practitioners with the training and experience to work with high complexity and chronicity, who often supervise or lead other therapists. In practice, that means the depth of experience needed for entrenched, longstanding or especially complex difficulties, not just straightforward ones.

Based in Horseheath, South Cambridgeshire, Tony sees clients in person locally and works with individuals, couples and organisations nationally and internationally online — offering therapy, executive coaching, clinical supervision and workplace (EAP) support.

His route into this work started in science. A first degree in biochemistry, specialising in the biochemistry of mood and behaviour, was followed by a career in business management and postgraduate qualifications in the field — before he trained across all three main branches of psychotherapy: psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural and humanistic. His PhD examined the clinical effectiveness of person-centred psychotherapy against other approaches, and specifically the impact of the therapeutic relationship on outcomes — research that still shapes how he practises today. He has lectured at universities, taught on training courses, and presented his research at international conferences.

That research background is why his practice keeps tracking outcomes: not just delivering therapy, but understanding what actually makes it work. Decades of studies — Lambert’s among them — point to the therapeutic relationship itself as one of the strongest predictors of whether therapy succeeds. Rather than take that on faith, Tony measures it directly with his own clients, alongside real outcome data across depression, anxiety, PTSD and complex trauma. It’s a level of transparency you won’t find on most therapy websites.

He shares his research and insights through YouTube, LinkedIn and PsycheVita, a skills-based approach to recovery and flourishing which he founded and leads as CEO.
