Public speaking: when being seen feels dangerous, the problem is often not confidence.
It is missing psychological emotional foundations.
When a person freezes, over-prepares, goes blank, rushes, people-pleases, dissociates, or avoids visibility, the issue is often deeper than presentation skills.
Very often, their system does not yet, usually for developmental reasons, have enough of three foundational capacities:
body awareness (somatic attunement)
emotional processing
healthy self-worth
If those foundations are weak, visibility gets processed as danger.
A body signal appears:
tight throat
chest pressure
shallow breathing
hot face
And within seconds, an old procedure runs:
I’m exposed
I’m under threat
I need to get through this
I need to get out of this
I need to not let them see
That is why insight alone so often fails.
You can understand the loop perfectly and still keep running it.
Because understanding is not the same as having built the procedures that let your body, emotions, and sense of self stay steady while you are being seen.
That is why I created the Missing Foundations pathway.
It targets the three core capacities that so often sit underneath visibility threat:
body awareness
emotional processing
healthy self-worth
If you’d like to understand the psychology of thism for an overview of the pathway, here’s the explainer video: https://lnkd.in/eacvaswf
And if you’d like a practical “how to” start building stronger foundations right now, here’s the guided practice, follow-along with me video: https://lnkd.in/eDjfKQxa
You do not need to become a different person.
But you may need to build the foundations that let being seen stop feeling like danger.
